Fav songs: Karisma And Govinda!

Work and the new semester is kicking my a**! Sooo the posts will unfortunately be even less frequent than usual.
Karisma and Govinda did many movies together and have many hits together. theyre considered a pair along wiht David Dhawana and have a some crazy songstogether with crazy dance moves. They always matched each other step by step.

1. Yaad sataye teri neend churaye- Raja Babu
Most people prefer 'sarkailo khatiya' because its funny and vulgar and just plain crazy. But i like this song because its catchy and along the lines of a sridevi-jeetendra song. the colors, beach sequence and instruments.

2. Meri pant bhi sexy- Dulaara
Govinda sang this song himself.

3. Tumsa koi pyara- Khuddar
one of the few non-comic movies that the two did. It had a very good story and this song was a classic.

4. Sona kitna sona hai- Hero no 1
My favorite movie from that pair, Ive watched it many times over. its not so much as funny as romantic. Another song i also like is 'mohabbat ki nahin jaati' which is a romantic song and they manage to throw in a comic element into it.

5. Husn hai suhana & Main to rasthe se ja rahi thi- Coolie no 1
The first song shows what awesome dancers the two were and hwo they matched step by step. The second song has crazy lyrics about eating ice cream and not caring if grandmothers dying.

6. i love you bol daal- Haseena Maan Jayegi

Fav songs: Preity Zinta!

Preity Zinta has her own distinct style of acting and is adorable. She also hates being called so! She is one of the better actresses of the Millenium.

1. Jiya Jale - Dil se
her first movie and most famous song.

2. Jaane Kyun- Dil Chahta hai
One of my fav films and a cute song with PZ and Aamir's characers arguing about falling in love.

3. Dil Laga Liya- Dil hai Tumhara
She really does look like a doll here.

4. Piya Piya- Har dil Jo Pyar Kareha
Preity and Rani were rivals but worked wonders together, along the lines of Sridevi and Jaya Prada.

5. Tu Jahan Main Wahan- Salaam Namaste
PZ made the best pair wiht Saif Ali Khan.

6. Bol na halke halke- Jhoom Barabar jhoom
Horrible movie, awesome song.

Guess who? Baby SK!

Look at baby Salman Khan, howwwww cutttteeeee issss heeee? I think he looks exactly the same. Salman and his mother Salma were on the first episode of Farah Khan's new chat show 'Tere mere Beach mein'. The theme was about being a Mama's boy. I'm looking forward to the other episodes which will continue to have a theme and bring together two celebs who have something in common (small towners who got fame, those who battled with weight etc.) I watched the show and it was very nice, not bitchy or boring and different from Karan Johar's show, which it will obviously be compared to.

Fav songs: Manisha Koirala!

Manisha was one of the prettier actresses of the 90's even if she was bigger and not such a great dancer. She must have been a favorite because she was a part of some of the better movies of the time like Bombay, Akele hum akele tum, Dil, Company etc.
(Also, i didn't know earlier when i was posting but it happens to also be her birthday, so happy birthday to her too!)

1. Mushkil bada Yeh Pyar hai- Gupt

2. Yeh dil Sun Raha Hain- Khamoshi
Sanjay Bhansali's first film and my favorite one.

3. Tu Mile Dil Khile- Criminal
Awesome song, never gets old.

4. Kehna hi Kya- Bombay
A Mani Ratnam film and a soundtrack by A.R Rahman never goes wrong.

5. Telephone Dhun-Hindustani

6. O yara Dil lagana -Agni Sakshi
A movie about domestic violence.

Fav Songs: Saif Ali Khan 90's edition!

Saif's new film 'Love Aaj Kal' release this week, it is his first as a producer. Here's a look of my favorite songs from his previous work in the 90's (A.k.A before he was initially considered the '4th Khan'). Enjoy!

1. Jab bhi koi ladki (Ole Ole) - Yeh Dillagi
Saif played the Casanova brother in this movie and this was the song that pretty much got him noticed. I also love the picturization of 'Naam kya hai' on him and Kajol. That song always somehow shows up in a game of Antakshri.

2. My adorable darling- Main Khiladi tu Anari
He was nominated in Filmfare's best supporting actor category for his role as the romantic hero Deepak Kumar. All the songs are pretty hot but I like this one alot, which features Raveena Tandon in a guest appearance.

3. Neela Dupatta Peela Suit - Hameshaa
The movie wasn't all that great but I remember this song was all the rage back when it came out. Its pretty catchy and one of my favorite 90's songs.

4. Ek Jawani teri ek jawani meri- Kachche Dhaage
Saif got another Filmfare supporting actor nomination for this film. I cant really choose a favorite because all the songs are pretty great; the music was by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. I also like 'Dil Pardesi Ho gaya'.

5. Title Song- Main Khiladi Tu Anari
No explanation needed. If you don't know about the Akhay-Saif pair, you don't know anything. Just get out of here ;p

Salman and Salma!

I used to think Salman Khan resembles his father Salim Khan, who is also quite handsome even now. Looking at pics from a recent event, I think he has his mommy's smile :)

Non-film song of the week! Kailash Kher

I love most Kailash Kher song and especially his last album. They've released a new album called 'Chaandan Mein' , and I love the earthy/ethnic touch in most of the videos. Here's the video for a song from the album called 'Aao ji'.

Throwing in the 'Teri Deewani' also because I love it :)

Fashion at IIFA 2009

The turnout for years' IIFA awards weren't all that. Either celebrities were busy, boycotting it, or didn't think it was important enough. There were performances by Bipasha Basu, Sonam Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Shahid Kapoor, Govinda and Riteish, Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Ashutosh Gowariker created another scene by going on stage and saying something about Priyanka Chopra not deserving the best actress award and it should have went to Aishwarya; It was edited out when telecast a few weeks later. Anyway, here are a few of my favorite celebrity looks from IIFA 2009

Favorite Songs: Raveena Tandon

1. Tip Tip Barsa Paani -Mohra
This is definitely one of the hottest rain/seduction songs in Hindi cinema. All of the songs of Mohra are pretty awesome so its hard to pick one but I'm sure tons of people would pick 'tu cheez badi hai mast mast'. I personally love 'Ae kaash kahi aisa hota' and 'subah se lekar shaam tak.'

2. Shaher ki Ladki- Rakshak
She made a special appearance in an 'item number' in the movie. She was lying low for a bit before that because she was thinking of quitting and also because of her drama with Akshay Kumar. She bounced back with this song and did some of her best work afterwards.

3. Kisi disco mein jaye - bade miyan chote miyan
whether you Love Govinda or not, this song is enjoyable because of the lyrics and the fun video. They did a whole bunch of movies together in the late 90's until they decided to take a break from each other.

4. Chaha to Bahot- Imthihaan
The whole soundtrack is this film is lovely so its hard to choose just one. My other favorite is "Iss tarah Ashiqui ka'.

5. Ya Mustafa- Aatish
one of favorite 'couples' songs. Love the outfits and the the choreography. Farah Khan mentioned on Koffee with Karan how it was crazy during the shooting. There was rivalry between Karisma and Raveena at the time and would they would stepping on each other and whacking each other with their hair. Supposedly now their daughters play with each other in the same school.

What are some of your favorite Raveena songs?

Salman's Wanted movie posters!

I've been looking forward to some new Salman Khan movies. Here are some posters of Boney Kapoor's Wanted directed my Prabhu Deva. It's a remake of a south indian movie Pokkiri and stars Salman Khan and Ayesha Takia. I'm looking forward to seeing SK doing some action, being paired with Ayesha for the first time and dancing to Prabhu Deva's style.

Interviewing Salman Khan!

Here is a little preview of a new Salman Khan interview. Now if you know SK, you know he hates interviews and any questions about his personal life. He will hit you right back with a crazy answer to a question about something touchy. She asks him about marriage, celebrating Katrina Kaif's birthday this year and a patch up with Shah Rukh Khan. This journalist is definitely digging her own grave ;p
In another recent interview with Anuradha Sen Gupta 'Beautiful People', SK tells the journalist that he is only answerable to his fans and he doesn't trust journalists nor does he feel comfortable sharing his emotions with them becuase he does not know them. He's thoroughly honest so it is enjoyable to watch to get an insight into him. Anything he says or does, they turn it around and he hates that. some people might consider him rude or crazy, but this is just him being himself and his fans love him for that.
Just as there is this side to him, there is also the side of him being himself on his show 'Dus Ka Dum'. He interacts with his fans, friends and colleagues and hes enjoying himself, being genuine and funny.

Non-film song of the week!

Pritam is known for taking inspiration (coughrippingoffcough) from other songs to create his own music, but I would say he does a good job recreating it. I wanted to share a song from Love Aaj Kal and also the original video it was taken from because I love them both.

and the original punjabi number:

I'd like to give credit to my friend Habiba for finding the original ;p

Promoting Friends ;p

I wanted to post a little something unrelated that I am proud of. One of my close girlfriends Farida was on the cover Of the Bombay Times (05/08/09) in an article about the mumbai trains turning violet. She used to live in New York and recently moved to India for career purposes so her accomplishing anything means a lot to me. I want her to be successful and ::knock on wood:: she will. She looks very distorted in the article online itself but Its still awesome that shes on there and they also wrote her name, which is cool ;p Shes the girl in the Violet.

Heres pics of her which are among my favorites:

Non-film Song of the week! Daler PaaJi!

When I was a preteen in the late 90's i remember tons of frizzy hair and tons of family parties! Aunties and cousins hoisting up lenghas and saris and uncles rolling around on the dance floor doing some odd version of bhangra. The man of the moment was Daler Mehndi! He was popular and had some great danceable songs. Punjabi pop songs were popular because of him and Sukhbir. Now when I listen to them and see the videos it makes me laugh. Whether we understood all the words or not didn't even matter :)
Here's the link to his official website to see what he's been up to.

Here are a few of my favorites..what were yours?

Bolo Tara ra ra!

Ho jayegi Balle Balle!

Sade dil te churiyaan ..

Songs of the week! Female Duets!

I think I've missed a week or two and I also don't remember what day I wanted to set aside for this. Sorry, but this might happen time and time again because I suffer from ADD ;p
I'm not sure what Id like to call this..but I love when there are female duet dancing songs of either sisters or best friends.

50s: Film: Azaad Song- 'Aplam Chaplam..'
forget the remix, listen to the original! These girls dance so well and they are also sisters in real life.

60s: Film: Parasmani Song: Hasta hua noorani chehra
I love this song, made popular from the pillow game scene in 'Hum Aapke hain koun'

7os: Film: The Burning Train Song: Meri nazar hai tujhpe
This is actually from 1980 but I really love this song and I think it still represents the 70's era

80s: Film- Joshilay Song-'dhak dhak jiya kare'

90s: Film: Kshatriya Song: Dil na kisi ka jaye

2000s: Film: Har dil jo pyar karega Song: Piya Piya o Piya

I have to add in a honorable mention to Karisma and Madhuri's Dance of Envy From Dil to Pagal Hai because it is too awesome.

Ninne Pelladatha (1996) - Southie!

I'm so bummed! my laptop isn't working properly because I probably got a virus and I was smart enough to try to use it without an anti-virus program. I just got the darn thing too! Well hopefully I"ll get it fixed up soon. So for now I'm using my sister's yucky old one for this short little post.

Instead of doing my paper last night, I watched a Telugu film called 'Ninne Pelladatha' by Krishna Vamsi starring Tabu and Nagarjuna. I actually watched it without any subtitles and went by any english words thrown in and expressions and setting so sometimes I was a little lost by certain things. I'm hoping someone can help me out with whatever I didn't get.

The story is pretty much that Mahalaxmi (Tabu) and Seenu (Nagarjuna) are from two loving families who are mad at each other. Tabu's mom belonged to Nagarjuna's family (I think she was a sister?) and ran away to marry Tabu's dad the day of her wedding so her brothers beat them up and they didn't talk for all those years.
Mahalaxmi goes Hyderabad on her own to enroll in pilot training classes and ends up living with Seenu's family (How and why that happens I don't know because of language problems so if anyone knows please tell me!) and Mahalaxmi and Seenu slowly fall in love. His family loves her and accepts her but they get separated when they find out who her parents are. Whether there is a happy ending or not, I'll leave that up in the air.

This movie is one of those wholesome family love stories that I loveeeee. It represented so many of my favorite hindi romance movies in almost every scene. Mahalaxmi and Seenu were adorable with each other whether they were flirting or picking on each other. I love when he finds out her nickname by accident and runs around calling her that to irk her because she hates that name (The name was something like Pendu; wonder what it means). Tabu and Nagarjuna were a treat to watch becuase of how well they looked together and individually their expressions and mannerisms were very lively. I beleive Tabu won the south filmfare best actress award for this movie.

photo taken from rasleela.com

Seenu's family was show to be really sweet and loving and I liked that they didn't show any fights within the family. His mom was played by actress Laxmi from 'Julie'; she was a lively character and tabu's character Mahalaxmi is actually her namesake. I couldn't help thinking of 'Hum aapke hain koun' especially when the boys are sneaking up on the woman having their own night of fun and the way she cooks for him one night they are alone and they declare their love each other secretly.

photo taken from rasleela.com

The soundtrack of the movie was done by Sandeep Chowtha and is a very nice album. I've heard all the songs earlier so I beleive they were quite popular and i think some the tunes might have been carried over to some hindi movie or a remake of it. I love the first song 'greeka veerudu' where Mahalaxmi is describing her dream guy (ala DDLJ) to her mother to be like Alexander the great.

Here are some other songs I really liked:
this one sounds like 'chahe dil ke kareeb' from Socha na tha

>

Oddly, I started my first sort-of review with a south film. Well it's due to my broken laptop and a film is a film, regardless of language.

Non-film music of the week feat. Alisha!

Alisha Chinai has a great voice and was considered the 'pop diva' of India and was extremely popular in the 90's; here are two songs that are my favorites.
'Lover girl' featuring Marc Robinson, who now owns his own modelling agency and has previously dated Preity Zinta. 'Made in India' features supermodel Milind Soman (can we say SO HOT?) who has dated Bipasha Basu and is now dating Shahana Goswami. Hope these bring back some memories ;p

Salman Khan campaigning!

Salman Khan is campaigning and asking for votes for the BJP and Vinod Khanna. I don't particularly care about all that but I'm loving how good he looks after losing that weight and standing next to another favorite hunk of mine..Vinod Khanna!
Aamir Khan advised Salman to give up drinking to help lose weight for the shooting of Veer. It's definitely working!

Here's a video of him talking to the crowd and being funny ;p

My top 100 hindi films Part -1

BBC Asian Network made a list of the top 50 hindi films we should own. I agree with most of their list but I think everyone has their own list of films they would watch over and over again depending on when they started watching or on they've grown up on. I thought I'd share my personal list of favorites (in no particular order) which would probably include more 80's and 90's films and I've made it 100 because I've seen quite a few:
1)Hum tum by Kohli Kohli (Rani Mukherji, Saif Ali Khan) The kind of love that I believe in so it’s my favorite love story.
2)Chandni by Yash Chopra (Sridevi, Rishi Kapoor, Vinod Khanna) I watch this film just about every month for about the last 15 years, Sridevi’s beauty captivates me.
3)Maine Pyar Kiya by Sooraj Barjatya (Salman Khan, Bhagyashree)-the movie that made me and everyone else fall in love with Salman Khan; first hindi film I remember watching.
4)Lamhe by Yash Chopra (Anil Kapoor, Sridevi) -I’m positive if this was released later on it would have been received better. It's one of Chopra’s best works and one of his own personal favorites.
5)Virasat by Priyadarshan (Anil Kapoor, Tabu) -I think I loved Amrish Puri more than Anil Kapoor in the movie and Tabu was just too adorable and innocent.
6)Khamoshi by Sanjay L. Bhansali (Salman Khan, Manisha Koirala, Nana Patekar)- I have too much I love about this film. Watching this film at 10 years old made my craze for hindi cinema emerge stronger
7)Chaalbaaz by Pankaj Parashar (Sridevi, Sunny Deol, Rajnikanth)- She was just too funny and her portrayal of the seperated twins Anju and Manju was so contrasting and fantastic.
8)Hum Aapke Hain Koun by Sooraj Barjatya (Madhuri Dixit, Salman Khan)- My favorite family drama, I don't care how many songs it has, madhuri is awesome
9)Saajan by Lawrence D' Souza (Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Salman Khan)- My favorite love triangle; It has madhuri, a hot salman khan and sanjay dutt and gorgeous songs.
10)Hero No. 1 By David Dhawan (Govinda, Karisma Kapoor)- karisma and govinda were the best together becuase theyre both good at comedy
11)Khubsurat by Hrishikesh Mukherjee (Rekha, Rakesh Roshan) Classic family comedy and Rekha was Manju with perfect comic-timing.
12)Jab We Met by Imitiaz Ali (Kareena Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor)- kareena kareena kareena! every dialogue Geet says is hilarious! this was more kareena the actress and less kareena the diva.
13)Hulchul by Priyadarshan (Kareena Kapoor, Akshaye Khanna) -Subtly funny family vs. family film of priyadarshan’s style
14)Darr by Yash Chopra (Sunny Deol, Juhi Chawla, Shah Rukh Khan)- Most people like this movie for a stalkerish SRK but I notice myself watching this over and over becuase the chemistry between Sunny and Juhi is pretty sweet.
15)Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (Juhi Chawla, Aamir Khan) the kids and Juhi were a riot, I think my love for naughty children grew from watching this.
16)Dil Chahta Hai by Farhan Akhtar (Aamir K. Akshaye K. Saif Ali K. Preity Z) Farhan started a new trend in hindi films with this one.
17)Kal Ho Naa Ho (Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Preity Zinta) -I don’t love all the parts of this film but Preitys' character of an angry girl was played out well by her.
18)Omkara by Vishal Bhardwaj (Ajay D, Kareena K, Saif Ali K)the perfect Indian adaptation of Shakespeare’s Othello. All the actors played their parts so well which were so different from what they usually do.
19)Khalnayak by Subhash Ghai (Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, Madhuri Dixi) - Sanjay dutt. ..is Da Man! He was the perfect villain. Awesome songs and Madhuri at her best.
20)Yes Boss by Aziz Mirza (Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla) -A time when SRK was more his character and less srk in a film. He played the underdog the best
21)Jodhaa Akbar by Ashutosh Ghowariker (Aishwarya Rai B, Hrithik Roshan) -The picturization and portrayal was perfect, I love the sword fight scene.
22)Pardes by Subhash Ghai (Shah Rukh Khan, Mahima C) -I really liked mahima in this film, I wonder where she is. The contrast between American and India was nice, even though the portrayal of America isn’t my favorite.
23)Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge by Aditya Chopra (Kajol, Shah Rukh Khan) -My generation’s favorite love story , but I do believe it ruined girl’s minds into believing the bad boy turns good thing is true and that we will have a savior/knight in shining armor..ehh lol
24)Abhimaan by Hrishikesh Mukherjee (Amitabh, Jaya Bachchan)- I cry everytime I watch this film. The chemistry between jaya and amitabh is beautiful.
25)Jeet by Raj Kanwar (Sunny Deol, Karisma Kapoor, Salman Khan) -My favorite karisma-salman movie and finally, salman gets the girl! It's Totally 90’s: crazy dance moves, fighting, a mujra and drama.
26)Kabhi Kabhi by Yash Chopra– multi-starrer love stories are always appealing and this one had all the great actors fo the 70's.
27)Hera Pheri by Priyadarshan (Paresh Rawal, Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty) -The dialogues and the interaction between the three actors are classic
28)Masoom by Shekhar Kapur (Naseerudin Shah, Shabana Azmi)- looking at innocent little Jugal Hansraj just makes you cry. I loved the scenery and the portrayal of the happy family and then how it slowly gets ruined by one mistake. The house was decorated so nicely and Shabana was so elegant.
29)Ishq by Indra Kumar (Aamir Khan, Juhi Chawla, Kajol, Ajay D)- funny funny funny, that scene on the wire and aamir-juhi fights were hiliarious! The first half was so comedic and the second half was a bit too sad though.
30)Baseraa by Ramesh Talwar (Shashi Kapoor, Rakhee, Rekha) -sweet story out sisters who love each other and the sacrifices they make, more films should be made like this
31) Main Khiladi Tu Anari by Sameer Malkan (Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, Shilpa Shetty) - I had shilpa shetty’s orange outfit from‘churake dil mera’, Saif ali Khan as the ditzy actor was so funny.
32)Luck by Chance by Zoya Akhtar (Farhan Akhtar, Konkona Sen Sharma)- this film appeals to me because its on point and realistic portrayal of how the hidni film industry works without only showing the curel side.
33)Bluffmaster by Rohan Sippy (Abhishek, Priyanka Chopra, Riteish Deshmukh)the abhishek-riteish pair still beats the abhishek-john pair for me.
34)Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander by Mansoor Khan (Aamir Khan, Ayesha Jhulka) -I don’t think there has been a college sports film made like this in hindi cinema since, correct me if im forgetting about any worht remembering.
35)Vaastav by Mahesh Manjrekar (Sanjay Dutt, Namrata Shirodkar) -Dutt deserved the best actor award that year and he got it rightly so, hes the best in bad man and gangster roles
36)Beta by Indra Kumar (Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Aruna Irani)- aruna irani and madhuri as MIL and DIL were like an intense game of chess. Is it just me or was tulsi and her MIL in the tv serial ‘kyunki saas bhi kabhi bahu thi’ based on them? Also, how hot is this song?
37)Aitraaz by Abbas Mustan (Priyanka Chopra, Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor) -Priyanka was SEXY! Im a woman and she evengot me, her attitude was what made her attractive rather than skin show.
38)Rangeela by Ram Gopal Verma (Aamir Khan, Urmila, Jackie Shroff) -I learned to dance through the music of rangeela and humse hai muqabla, a.r rahman is awesome and aamir as a tapori is so good. Urmila looked pretty hot and changed her image.
39)Deewana by Raj Kanwar (Rishi Kapoor, Divya Bharti, SRK) -I really liked her; if Divya hadn’t died she would’ve been tough completion for the 90’s girls.
40)Jab Pyar Kisise Hota Hai by Nasir Hussain (Salman Khan, Twinkle Khanna) -I love salman khan so I’m biased towards loving all his films especially when he plays the bad boy and looks super-duper hot ;p

next part coming soon!

Aishwarya as Barbie?

Update** AIshwarya has turned down the offer as of now..

Aishwarya's getting a barbie doll modelled after her. They keep stressing in articles about how the doll will have her green eyes and a dress like her. She's not known for having awesome dress sense and does having green eyes really mean they are prettier? Would she have even been as accepted so beautiful if she didn't have those green eyes that make her non-indian looking? I do believe she is very beautiful but I don't think she deserves to actually represent bollywood besides the fact she's the only one that really marketed herself internationally as being the face of bollywood and 'the most gorgeous Indian face' ever (I feel that crown belongs to Sridevi, but that's a whole different post altogether). She has delivered more flops and hits and more than that, she has more awful performances than ones she can be appreciated in. If some of the other actresses tried they could have achieved that international bollywood rep title as well. Bipasha Basu and Kareena Kapoor have quite an international face and look more Indian than Aishwarya does. They have far better performances and better bodies that work internationally.
Katrina Kaif is also supposedly getting her own doll. She may be a bollywood actress and gorgeous, but well, but she's not INDIAN.
It made more sense when Kajol and Priyanka Chopra got their own limited edition Bollywood Legends dolls.
